Three Lakes WMA Volunteer Work Party 2024

Expired

Description

Join the Indian River Chapter in maintaining the Florida Trail and side trails within Three Lakes WMA. We will be conducting general trail maintenance including mowing, lopping, blazing and hand sawing.

Camping is available but not required! Feel free to drive in for a day or all days!

Named for the three lakes that border the area, Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area preserves pine flatwoods, a significant portion of the Kissimmee Prairie that is one of the last remaining expanses of dry prairie in the United States, and numerous other natural communities. The wet prairies around Lake Kissimmee provide crucial wintering grounds for both sandhill cranes and whooping cranes. The trail wanders through palmetto prairies and pine flatwoods, open scrub and prairies. Come join our trail stewards to blaze, mow and cut back vegetation on the Florida Trail.

We will camp at the group campsite which features a large fire pit and a gorgeous live oak canopy. All meals Friday dinner- Sunday lunch will be provided.

Hiking boots (or other trail shoes) and long pants are required. Long-sleeve t-shirts are recommended. **Bring an orange shirt or brightly-colored clothing as hunting may be occurring in other areas of the property

This event is a free volunteer opportunity. Join our crew and have fun!
