Join the Tropical Trekkers for their annual work week this December. Come and work for the day or camp out!
The crew will meet every morning at the Cracker Trail Country Store (18084 US-98, Okeechobee, FL 34972) at 8:00 and divide into crews. This work event will cover trails from Lake Okeechobee to Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park which is nearly 70 miles of the FNST and additional high water trails. Tasks include lopping and clearing the trail, removing downed trees and branches from Hurricane Ian, mowing, blazing and more.
Camping: For those interested in camping, the chapter has reserved campsites at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park from December 5th-9th. This campsite has restrooms, showers and electricity at all sites.
Meals: All meals are provided by the Tropical Trekkers and FTA team and cooked communally in our large camp kitchen. All meals will be served at the KPPSP campsites.
What to expect: We will use a combination of power equipment and hand tools to bring the trail back up to standard. Join our crew and have fun!
What to bring: For all projects you will need to bring a day pack, sturdy boots, and appropriate clothing. Long pants are required to do trail work and long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Sunscreen and bug spray are also advised. You will need to provide your own camping gear, this includes a tent, sleeping bag,lunch container (baggie or tupperware, and personal items.
