The Big Cypress National Preserve encompasses over 728,000 acres of the Western Everglades. It includes some of the Florida Trail’s most rugged and remote terrain. The diverse ecosystems are dynamic and shifts in wildlife populations can be difficult to quantify. Wildlife Biologist, Travis Mangione, will share about the challenges there are for managing a vast landscape and what research is being done in the Preserve for focal species such as White-tailed Deer, Florida Panther, Meso-mammals, Burmese Python, and Red-cockaded Woodpecker to name a few.
