Fellow Big Cypress Trail blazers,
It’s the second of our two-part exploration of historic downtown Miami north and south of the Miami River!! Join us for an 8-mile easy/moderate urban hike that will take about 7 hours, come rain or come shine as we now explore south of the River!!
WHEN: 7:00 am on Saturday, February 4th, 2023
WHERE: Meet in the Jurors' parking lot for Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building, 1100 NW 13th Ave, Miami, FL 33125
Duration: Hike will begin at 7:30 AM and end around 3:30 PM.
Parking is also available at the Winn-Dixie to the east across NW 12th Avenue or the Publix on NW North River Drive and NW 14th Avenue west of the parking lot.
Plan to make a bathroom break there before we set out. Bathroom breaks along the walk may be at parks or at cafeterias and restaurants, depending on whether Miami Parks' public bathrooms are available. You may want to bring water and a snack for the duration of the hike.
We will hike to NW 29th Avenue on the south side of the river and return from there on the north side, stopping to see where the rapids of the north fork of Miami River used to be. You never know whom we may encounter on the hike; serendipitous meetings with local native Miamians are known to occur!
On our way back we will stop at the Miami Bakery for lunch (it offers outdoor seating so distance may be maintained) before finishing back at the parking lot.
Essentials: Water, snacks, Insect spray, Sunhat and Lotion.
