He’s BACK! It’s another Cesar Becerra Walking Tour. We had a marvelous time of it last year in Everglades City, let’s do it again at our very own Matheson Hammock Park. Come and learn the how, when, where, and why this 630-acre park was founded as we walk in the footsteps of the original inhabitants.
We will explore the west side of the park before crossing Old Cutler Rd and slowly meandering through the park to the beach and kayak launch area. Trail varies from gravel to paved surface to dirt and sand.
Cesar A. Becerra is a well-known South Florida historian who has taken part in chronicling and sharing the stories of the region for more than two decades. He is the author of half a dozen books ranging from hiking the Appalachian Trail to the logging history of the Big Cypress National Preserve; an avid explorer who has driven through all 50 states in a one-year road trip to rediscover America for the Travel Channel; and he has also hiked the 2,160-mile Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia in 388 days through 14 states and 4 seasons.
He has walked, hiked, slogged, canoed, kayaked, ‘air boated’ and ‘swamp-buggied’ all across the Everglades.
Let’s join this preeminent South Florida historian as he takes us into the recent past of our own city.
