The Florida Trail Association is excited to announce our largest Volunteer Work Party ever as we look to finish the cleanup from Hurricane Idalia which ravaged the Suwannee River region in August. In October, FTA crews cleared 40 miles of trail by cutting thousands of downed trees left in Idalia's wake. While that was an amazing accomplishment, there are 21 miles of extremely damaged trail remaining in Suwannee River State Park and Twin Rivers State Forest that need to be cleared in order for the Suwannee trail section to be fully open.
Join the FTA in a massive work party to help clear the rest of the trail. This is going to be extremely difficult and labor intensive work. While we will rely on certified chainsaw operators to do the saw work, we need hardy volunteers to help clean up debris and work with the saw teams to clear the trail. We welcome all volunteers, with a strong need for certified sawyers and individuals with experience working hard in the woods all day. If you are brand new to this kind of work we encourage you to look at other opportunities provided by the FTA and its chapters.
The project begins at 4pm on Thursday December 14th. Work begins Friday morning on the 15th and runs through 3pm on the 19th.
This project will be based out of Suwannee River State Park and our crews will have short commute times to different locations each day. All meals will be provided by the FTA and served out of a large camp kitchen. This project will be at least double the size of an average work event.
