Join the Sandhill Chapter of the FTA for a Hurricane Helene storm recovery project on the Florida Trail along the Suwannee River based in White Springs, FL. Camping is provided at in White Springs on private property and work will head west along the river. Please arrive after 4pm on Thursday October 17th. This is not a work day, but time to set up camp. Work begins the morning of Friday and runs until Monday October 21st.
Camping:
Camping is provided at the home of one of FTA's local volunteers. There is electricity and running water. RVs are not allowed. We will have portable toilets on site as well as propane showers.
Meals:
All meals will be provided by the FTA and cooked in our large camp kitchen. We can accommodate all diets.
What to expect:
Expect to work incredibly hard. This is not necessarily the best project for a first time volunteer! The days will be warm and the task of sawing and removing debris is physically intense. Please know your own limits, and if you are not up for this please look for other FTA events that are not as demanding. The work is hard and dangerous and requires a high level of physical fitness.
Each day we will split into many small teams and work on different sections of trail.
What to bring:
For all projects you will need to bring a day pack, sturdy footwear, and appropriate clothing. Long pants are required to do trail work and long-sleeved shirts are recommended. You will need to provide your own camping gear, this includes a tent, sleeping bag, lunch container (baggie or tupperware,) and personal items.
FTA has a lot of saw equipment, but if you are a trained sawyer and have your own or FTA chapter equipment, please bring it.
